The Church is the visible and mystical Body of Christ, established by the Lord Himself, revealed at Pentecost, and sustained by the Holy Spirit throughout history.
The American Orthodox Catholic Church understands itself within this historic Orthodox framework: apostolic succession, sacramental worship, doctrinal continuity, and conciliar governance.
The Church is not a voluntary association, nor a product of private interpretation. She is a living organism, entrusted with the faith once delivered to the saints.
The Church is built upon the foundation of the Apostles, with Christ Himself as the cornerstone. Apostolic succession is not a theory or a symbol. It is the concrete transmission of ecclesial authority and sacramental grace through the laying on of hands, preserved within the Orthodox Church.
The American Orthodox Catholic Church maintains this succession as essential to the life of the Church and the integrity of the Holy Mysteries.

Orthodoxy is conciliar by nature. Authority in the Church is exercised collectively by bishops in synod, guided by the Holy Spirit and accountable to the tradition of the Church.
No single bishop, patriarch, or jurisdiction possesses unilateral authority over the fullness of the Church. This conciliar structure safeguards the faith from innovation, abuse, and domination.
The Church is catholic, meaning whole and complete. She lacks nothing. Catholicity does not depend upon size, political recognition, or cultural dominance. It is revealed through fidelity to the faith, unity in worship, and continuity of life.
The American Orthodox Catholic Church exists as a local expression of this catholic fullness.
